This course focuses on the lived experience of being raised by a narcissistic parent. Each module explores a different parenting style and its psychological impact, supporting survivors to name, understand and begin unpicking these complex dynamics.

Modules:

  1. Introduction
    Introduces narcissistic parents and outlines the four main narcissistic parenting styles addressed in the course.

  2. The Critical Narcissistic Parent
    Explores the dynamic of constant judgement and shaming. Looks at how perfectionism, toxic self-criticism, and shame are internalised by the child.

  3. The Ignoring Narcissistic Parent
    Focuses on neglect, emotional absence and dismissal. Describes how children learn to suppress needs and feelings in response to being invisible.

  4. The Engulfing Narcissistic Parent
    Covers enmeshment, emotional dependency and identity loss. Explains how boundaries are eroded and autonomy is sacrificed.

  5. The Combination Narcissistic Parent
    Examines unpredictability—where a parent shifts between criticism, neglect and smothering. Describes the resulting emotional instability and anxiety.

  6. The Normalisation of Narcissistic Parents
    Considers how society often excuses or glamorises harmful parental behaviour. Highlights the impact of cultural silence on survivor self-doubt.
